“The skies look grimly, and threaten present blusters.”
The Winter’s Tale, Act 3, Scene 3
Weather is often viewed as an expression of emotion on a global scale. Sometimes explained as the result of impassioned or warring gods, the emotive nature of weather is a thread that runs through mythology, literature, language, and music.
Our tempestuous journey will begin in the Middle Ages with wintery woes from Walter von der Vogelweide, then on through England, France, Spain, and Italy with music by Purcell, Locke, Jacquet de la Guerre, Bourgeois, Marais, de Torres, d’India, Strozzi, Veracini, and Vivaldi.
From zephyrs to gales, we will fill our sails with winds of the past and embark on a turbulent musical voyage!
Join us as we explore the different faces of weather!
