As the cold weather makes its advances, Sospiri is preparing new musical delights to warm your winter! From humorous complaints to the most poignant outpourings of sorrow, we’ll be exploring the theme of lament in early music.
In what became a centerpiece of baroque music, the lament was an opportunity for composers to play with a huge range of emotional affects. We’ll be showcasing a variety of vocal solos, duets, and instrumental works from the early Baroque by composers such as Monteverdi, D’India, Sances, Strozzi, Provenzale, Cazzati, Pucell, Gow, and Biber!
Sospiri is particularly excited to welcome mezzo-soprano Rocky Duval to the stage for these performances. Hailing from New York City, Rocky is a passionate performer of early music, and has performed with such groups as Festival Bach Montréal, Seattle Symphony, Barcelona Opera Studio, Metropolitan Opera Guild, Glimmerglass Festival, and recently the Amherst Early Music Festival, where she and Janna appeared together in the Cavalli opera Erismena.
Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door, and are $25 or pay-as-able.

Guest Artist: Rocky Duval
New York based singer, performance poet, and writer Rocky Duval (she/her) has been performing professionally since the age of 11 and has appeared in opera, television, stage, concert, off-Broadway, and the TEDx stage.
Ms. Duval specializes in singing baroque and contemporary classical music, and has performed with many companies, including: The Metropolitan Opera Guild, The Glimmerglass Festival, Festival Bach Montreal, Frequent Flyers Aerial Dance, The Colorado Music Festival, The Seattle Symphony, Opera Steamboat, Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute, Amherst Early Music, among many others.
